THE BIG QUESTIONS

“WBWC is reopening!”

Answer: False
Reality: While we’d love to carry on the legacy of WBWC, North Carolina Birth Center is a new birth center in the same location.

“NCBC won’t be offering Well-body and Wellness Care!”

Answer: False
Reality: We will provide Well-body, Wellness care, and Prenatal and Birthing care.

“NCBC threw out so many educational supplies from the previous birth center. It’s like they don’t care!”

Answer: False
Reality: We care greatly! NCBC intended to utilize many items left behind by the previous birth center, and we were excited to have so many educational supplies. However, after purchasing the building, there was a massive water and sewage leak on the first floor. Many of the items we intended to keep were in contact with and in proximity to hazardous waste, which prevented us from being able to keep or distribute them to the public voluntarily. Safety is a top priority.

“NCBC will be an out-of-hospital birthing option for folks around North Carolina, utilizing the Midwifery model of care.”

Answer: TRUE
Reality: NCBC is a free-standing birth center that will practice the Midwifery Model of Care. We respect, admire, and fully support the beauty and safety of physiological birth without judgment or fear.

We recently held three Focus Groups and received terrific feedback from the community! We met with potential clients, local birth workers, and clients of the previous birth center that occupied the building (Women’s Birth and Wellness) to get as much information as possible. We want to share some questions that we asked and common points that were brought up.

• What makes a new space feel welcoming to you?

• What attributes do you hope to see when looking for a prenatal caregiver?

• Are there specific tools, comfort items, decor, etc… you’d hope to see in a Birth Center birthing room?

• Can you share examples of poor care practices you may have received from a past provider?

• Please share two expectations you have of NCBC.

• How would you describe your overall experience of prenatal care and birthing at WBWC?

• What did you love about your experience at WBWC, and is there anything you wish you could have changed?

• As a Birth Worker, if you could have the experience of your dreams while supporting a client at our center, what would that look like?

• In your opinion, what can NCBC do to carry the legacy of WBWC while creating a new relationship with the community?

  
  Common Points

• Will we have health insurance coverage? YES! We’ll have insurance and self-pay options. More information will be available once we get closer to opening as we continue to pursue contracts.

• Will NCBC have a relationship with a local hospital? That’s the plan! We know that clients have better experiences when the people giving their care can connect, collaborate, and keep the client at the center of the care model. It benefits everyone when there are open lines of communication. We look forward to building these relationships with the community.
