Johanna grew up in Chapel Hill, graduating from ECHHS and studied philosophy at St. John's College. She spent a summer in Ghana at a Baptist hospital full of midwives who indulged her questions and let her watch all kinds of births. Since catching her niece in the car during a precipitous birth on the way to Women's Birth and Wellness center (NCBC’s location predecessor), Johanna hasn't left birth! Her special interest is postpartum moms and postpartum mood disorders. Most of her experience comes from birth assisting in home birth with CPM's and the triangle's most established home birth CNM. She's also a birth and postpartum doula and has experience with Stillbirthday. She is on hiatus from her studies as a NARM Phase 2 CPM student but loves to learn!
She has six kids ages 11 to the 19 who tease her relentlessly. She had three of her own babies in the blue and yellow rooms of WBWC, two at home and one is adopted from China. Johanna loves baking anything chocolate, high quality coffee, a good worship service at her church and speed puzzling! (She placed 14th in the World Jigsaw Puzzle Championship in Spain with her team in 2022.)
Working at NCBC is her dream job
