Lauren is a Registered Nurse, Certified Nurse-Midwife, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, and local La Leche League Leader in Durham, NC. Lauren and her husband/best friend moved to Durham, NC in 2015 for Lauren to attend midwifery school at ECU. They have three wild sons together, and two were born at the Women's Birth and Wellness Center, NCBC’s location predecessor.
Lauren is originally from Long Island, New York, and studied nursing and anthropology at The University of New York at Buffalo. Lauren's first jobs as an RN starting in 2008 was in cardiology and ICU's. During her anthropology courses, Lauren learned about midwives and birth around the world, and the many different practices and ways babies are born. During her first pregnancy, Lauren received midwifery care, and was reminded of how important and crucial midwives are to healthy families and communities. This led her to apply for midwifery school, and starting a job as a nurse at The University of North Carolina Medical Center for the ICU Float Team, and then shortly after, starting on UNC's Labor & Delivery, where she worked for 6 years. Lauren transitioned to being a birth assistant, assisting two local homebirth midwives to support families choosing out of hospital birth. It was deeply nourishing and educational to be welcomed into people's homes and lives so openly, and she is eternally grateful for everyone she learned from, including the midwives and birth assistants.
For fun, Lauren loves to cook and feed her children (non-stop), and bake sourdough bread! She even teaches sourdough making classes at a local Durham farm! She looks forward to caring for and learning from each and every one who comes through our building!
