Mariam joined NCBC in November 2023 as the Outreach and Education Coordinator, where she played a key role in building relationships within the local birth community and navigating the complexities of constructing and renovating the Birth Center’s home. When NCBC officially opened its doors in April 2025, Mariam’s role naturally expanded to include Office Manager, reflecting her deep knowledge of the organization and commitment to its mission.
Mariam’s path into birth work began in 2014 as a volunteer with the Birth Partners program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While balancing a full-time position as a research specialist at UNC, parenting, and her work as a volunteer doula, she pursued and earned her Birth Doula Certification through DONA International. This milestone marked the beginning of her professional birth-centered career and solidified her dedication to supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and beyond.
By the age of 15, Mariam had lived in Italy, Switzerland, Canada, and eventually ended up in the USA in 2000. Her family planted their feet in Los Angeles, CA where she attended high school and college, receiving her Bachelors of Science in Biology from the UC Davis in Northern California. After marrying her husband, Brett, in 2013, they decided to pack their belongings and try their luck in North Carolina… They have never looked back.
Mariam currently lives in Durham, NC, with her husband, two children, and their dog. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, crocheting, taking nature walks, listening to true-crime and investigative podcasts (let her know your recommendations), and spending time with friends and family.
